Dr. A. Velayutham did his B.Sc. (Agri) and M.Sc. (Agri) in Agronomy from Annamalai University and Ph.D in Agronomy with Weed Management specialization from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU). He began his academic career in TNAU as Assistant Professor during 1988.
Dr. A. Velayutham had a total teaching, research and extension experience of 36 years. Worked as Professor and Head, Department of Farm management at TNAU, Coimbatore (2009-2012)and AC& RI, Killikuam(2015-2018). Served as Dean at Dr MSS AC&RI , TNAU, Eachangkottai, Thanjavur from 2020 -2024.
Member, Academic Council of TNAU (2010 to 2012 and 2020 to 2024) and Member, Board of Post Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Agriculture of TNAU (2009 to 2012).
Executive council member and Tamil Nadu Councillor in Indian Society of Agronomy, New Delhi, Vice –President, Secretary, Treasurer of Madras Agricultural Students Union (MASU), Member – Editorial Board of Uzhavarin Valarum Velanmai, Member – ICAR assessment committee for CTRI, Rajamundry
ACHIEVEMENTS AND AWARDS :-
- Best NSS programme officer Award by Government of Tamil Nadu during 1990-1991
- T. Konda Reddy Shield and Medal for Agronomy by MASU during 2005
- Best Researcher Award by TNAU during 2006
- National Award for e-governance by Government of India for 2010-2011
- Fellow of the Indian Society of Agronomy (FISA) for the year 2018
- Gold medal for Best contribution Award by Agricultural Scientific Tamil Society, (SCITSA) New Delhi during 2020
- Excellence in Education Award by GJIC-PPSVC during 2021
- Fellow Bose Science Society for the year 2023 by Bose Science Society
- Lifetime Achievement Award 2023 in Agriculture (Agronomy) by Prosper foundation
- Dr.A.P.J.Abdulkalam Best Scientist and Distinguished fellow award for the year 2023 by Tamil Nadu Scientific Research Organization
- Organized and Created world record (International book of records) for 21 hours and 30 minutes continuous Webinarathon on 15.10.2020 on the eve of National women farmers’ day and world student’s day at AC&RI, Eachangkottai .
- Organized an International Conference on “Emerging Trends in Plant Protection for Sustainable Vegetable Cultivation” at AC&RI, Eachangkottai from 25.08.2021 and 26.08.2021.
